This is their weakest since Identity Crisis. Second half is excellent aside from Hold up a Light.

Calc, you'll enjoy it. There are some incredible songs on this.
|

the only thing incredible about any of this is how generic the songwriting has become

You're right, I've heard Just Breathe done by like 40 other bands.

Oh come on this is so generic. If it didn't have the name 'Thrice' attached to it I'll bet people would be shitting on it.
|

this is Nickelback-tier hard/cock rock and if they released this you'd all be 1ing it

Yeah, because it is Thrice, I'm giving them lots of benefit of the doubt.

But I will agree with the sentiment here that Dustin's lyrics took a significant step back.

major/minor was super disappointing, it was the first time the deluge of christian imagery ham-fist-sandwiched itself down my throat

As much as I adore this band and really dig most of their new material, this is just incredibly disappointing. It sounds like they wanted to do something stripped down, artsy, and indie like Beggars but couldnt commit at all and instead we get half assed radio rock with a couple kinda almost experimental parts

Damn is it now cool to hate M/M because it received so much praise back then? Also Palms really is disappointing imo.

M/M is fantastic. Its the most straightforward thing theyve done but its packed with gorgeous melodies, hooks galore, and Dustin's best vocal/lyrical performance yet

The M/M hate is odd, but that 4 average speaks for itself.

Also TBEITBN, while not terribly forward thinking, could be excused in a lot of ways for being a comeback album where the band was just getting back on their feet after a few years off. You cant really make that excuse here. Plus none of the tracks on Palms can top Hurricane
