I think you could trim the fat and this would be a 4.5. If I could give it a 3.75 I would. The stronger 6-8 songs would have made a killer ep.

Heard of them but never listened to them before now. It's ok I guess. Couple of good songs on here but a couple of forgettable ones.

IMHO this is the best album they've done since The Alchemy Index (maybe on par with Beggars, it's hard to tell for now). Finally it has more experimentation and Vheissu-like complexity, which the latter records lacked. Also it is super diverse which i think is good after TBEITBN was pretty much all heavy and straightforward.

Regarding Beyond The Pines I like that they didn't went back to more powerful version of the chorus because it would be super obvious — we hear it on almost every damn record.

Honestly Palms feels like an exact continuation of The AI:

The Grey, Only Us, A Branch In The River, Hold Up A Light — Fire

The Dark — Water

Just Breath, My Soul, Everything Belongs — Air

Blood On Blood and Beyond The Pines — Earth

Thrice is not a Christian band. Dustin (and maybe some of the other members) may be Christian, but that doesn't make them a Christian band.

I believe the rock sound has taken its course with Thrice. I adore how every album has a different sound, but they shine the most when they use deep tones and are a bit heavier. They need to go balls to the wall and rock the fuck out already.

No they're not.

Yeah I'm kinda surprised they haven't gone off to do more experimenting. After Vheissu and the Alchemy Index, they've settled into this rock groove. It's not a bad groove, but I'd like to see them either go heavier (shit like Firebreather and Hold Fast Hope) or try playing around more with their sound.

'Beyond The Pines' reminds me of The Dear Hunter's 'Melpomene'

I have a little bit of a problem with hoping someone loses faith to write a good album. It feels a little bit like when people say that they hope their girlfriend/wife cheats on them so they write an angry record again.

That said, this does feel uninspired to me. The raw production combined with electronic elements are jarring, and A Branch In the River sounds like a band that used to be heavy trying to go back to that sound when they just aren't good at writing songs like that anymore.

Guys dustin hasnt lost his faith. The Grey, based on a couple interviews, is simply about interpreting things in black and white and the subject nature of words and language. Unless there is somewhere else that has been said i dont buy it.

Even if they aren't a "Christian Band". He still writes all the lyrics and an overwhelming majority of their songs in the past reference scripture or are blatantly about faith. Especially the Alchemy Index.

I feel like people are going off of reddit conversations moreover what the band has actually said, either way it doesnt matter and has nothing to do with this album. Its about unity and being. Faith or not.
