Saw them live with Eric Emery before this album was hinted at. Singing all the old stuff, I thought he was a good fit. Sang wonderfully.

This dropped and feels like a strange diagonal step backwards. Solid in it's own right, but never touching on Blinding White Noise, let alone Guiding Lights. It certainly has it's moments, and even before learning how much was written while Dan was still planted, you can hear him scattered throughout, especially in the title track. Yet it just doesn't do it

Good bump. I should probably revisit this. It disappointed me when it was released, but who knows, maybe it's better than I remember and will be better without the expectations.

Good bump [2]

It lead me to see if the band posted any updates recently, but still nothing... However I did find this gem from about 3 months ago:

Hopefully there's stuff coming up cos on re-listening I found I really liked this. Definitely a more pop focused album but it works for the most part. First half is still catchy as hell and even after not having listened to this album for at least 2 years every hook instantly came back to me. It's interesting how perception can change over time.

Yeah they seemed to be going for a more alt-rock sound on this one, even opened for Tremonti and 10 Years on the album's touring. Hoping they go back to a more proggy side for the next one, which they definitely were working on at least in 2020 because I remember them showcasing riffs on their Insta. COVID probably fucked things up, as it has for many artists.

Would love to have Skyharbor tour with Monuments for their new album too, but feels like slim chance at best.

Anup also sounds like he really wants to be back with them, and he did a great job elevating Dim in the cover above.

Sadly, the only tracks I still like and listened to were Dim, Out of Time and title track... the rest had some cool moments but I wanted to skip them.

Still like the original version of Blind Side. The old Chemical Hands single grew on me a lot, though wish the guitars/bass were more prominent over the electronics:

For me this albums hooks are enough to carry it to a 4. I can see why people dont like this though, the instrumentals do little to impress. But I for one think the instrumental does a splendid job of creating an atmosphere.

Your avi goes so well with this album art @Voltimand, too bad ya dont like it : '(

Thanks for the avi compliment, Tundra.

Will give this some more listens; maybe I can be too harsh on it sometimes, but that's only because I know the band is capable of much more–they're still one of my favorites, after all.

Creating atmosphere was one of their goals with Sunshine Dust iirc, and they definitely succeeded in that.

ya same here Voltimand

I was so stoked for this album, and it was a rollercoaster hearing those early singles, which I think are still superior. Then they recorded the album....didn't like it, re-recorded and re-produced it, and in the end it just fell flat for me, like nothing quite touched the bittersweet and passionate tones on those early singles, it just didn't sound the same to me, but that's totally a me issue. Then COVID undoubtedly fucked up any momentum for touring and for getting together with Eric for future material.

I hold a lot of goodwill for them though and I really hope they can get some more stuff out in the future.

I see a I gave a 4 here? Maybe I revisited and liked it a lot more with my expectations tempered by a few years.

Didn't know Keshav had another thing going on. Will check. Yeah, it sucks for these guys, but their recording and touring shit was sporadic regardless. I think it'll likely be a Karnivool situation. Keshav and Devesh will do their own things and then when they have a bunch of riffs sitting around that sound Skyharbor-ish they'll record them.

Some of the band members reunited for Lollapalooza-Mumbai recently (though not sure of any other details):

Dan and Anup leaving were the worst atrocities for this band.

What's worse is how you can indeed hear Dan all over this thing, and dare I say in registers he's just now touching on in Tesseract?

They could have been huge, but those two blows did them in I'm afriad.

Do we know they're done for good? Nothing in recent years hints they broke up, just on a quiet hiatus.
