Cover art is giving me big "the eyes of my mother" vibes

I hoping for more of a pun in the summary
Like, "What's the matter, can't hold your Liquor?"

That doesn't make any sense though lol

This is what I expected with that album cover

It's definitely not illuminate, but I think there close to something that might be good in maybe a record or two. This plus illuminate soundscapes with more personal lyrics might be good? I hope, haven't given up on the band yet.

What happened to these, Illuminate was so good.

Leighton's lyrical ability has gone seriously downhill

This is the problem though. The soundscape stuff has disappeared from the band with the departure of some of the original members (and the producer too if I'm not mistaken?). The band is now basically just Leighton's project where to me it feels like he's just using Lydia's name and reputation to do what he was trying to do with The Cinema (a much poppier side project) which never really garnered much interest.
I don't hate this album as much as I thought I would when I heard the singles on their release - there are a few tracks that I enjoy on here. But yeah the songwriting is really flat and uninspired and is missing the atmosphere that their previous work has always had even though they've been moving away from the Illuminate sound for years now. In fact, Illuminate and This December are really the outliers in their discography by now.

Got intrigued to listen to this by the album cover alone. It's not horrible, and arguably, it's better than 99% of pop music out there, but it's not amazing, either. Just average.

been really trying to give this a fair shot but i keep getting frustrated with it, too much repetition on every single song, I do dig Let It Cover Me Up a lot though

Yeah well
Baby, you're crazy, no, no no
What if I'm crazy, darlin'?

I think I might love this album; I still need to listen to Run Wild, though.

Wasn't expecting to see this get bumped in 2020. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I've remember this being very disappointing but it's also been more than 2 years since I've bothered with it.
