The opening track does indeed suck.

I would say the same if it wasn't for Baby Blue.

I love Baby Blue but I’m in the minority there.

I think I'd rank the opener as the 4th worst song Deafheaven has ever written, behind Gifts of the Earth, Baby Blue, and Language Games. Interludes (any of their songs not over 6+ minutes long) not considered.

"worst song Deafheaven has ever written, behind Gifts of the Earth" get out lmao
So how much did You hate New Bermuda then, Tronald?

I accept that I'm a barbaric Philistine, but after a couple listens I'm forced to conclude that New Bermuda is still my favorite of their albums. More m/ isn't always a bad thing...

baby blue was the best song on new bermuda from what I remember. it’s funny how so many opinions about this band are just split right down the middle, no gray areas

I didn't hate New Bermuda, I just thought it was underwhelming overall. Gifts of the Earth just sounded like a broken idea from start to finish for me.

I think im the only person ever who thinks Brought to the Water is the best song off New Bermuda.

the vocals are good but the songs themselves reek of this faux-sentimentalism that I just can't get behind

like there's really nothing wrong with the production, the songwriting just seems really flat

I will say that the vocals on New Bermuda are the best on any DH album imo. Strikes the perfect balance between clarity and ethereal.

I may find myself in the minority, but I think the vocals in this album are the best they’ve ever sounded. Sunbather is still my favorite album from them and have the most recognizable vocals from their discography, but I think the vocals here are like New Bermuda’s but much more polished, tight, and crisp. The screams in Canary Yellow and Glint are the best they’ve ever sounded. Sunbather has some extremely powerful and beautiful segments of music but the part from 3:45-4:25 of Glint may be their best moment yet. Those screams are transcendent as hell. Especially the reverberated one at the end of that segment.

Kirk should sue for that egregiously awful Baby Blue solo. So many people whine about them not being BM enough that I wonder if they love New Bermuda because it's literally just Deafheaven playing Black Metal dressup
|

Deafheaven to me... is a band that know how they want to emote, whilst repeatedly fucking up their song forms beyond belief. They dont flow for shit

Flow about as well as a piece of aggregate in a fkn concrete block
