To all the people claiming Colors II is easily the best thing they've done in a decade plus... please recheck the automata albums. Kinda disjointed but the good stuff is def among their best material like Yellow Eyes, Blot, Proverbial Blow, Voice of Trespass.

Feel like these albums kinda fell by the wayside for a lot of people after Coma Ecliptic soured people

It's always surprised me the amount of hate that comes for the Automata series. Obviously there is some garbage on their but when you break it down there's some career highlights sprinkled throughout.

I feel like their career took off following Coma....

I think the more restrained aggression on the post-Coma albums made them more accessible and therefore brought in new fans while pissing off a lot of older fans, as is always the case.

Right now I'm preferring Automata to Colors II

BTBAM albums always take a while to grow on me. I'ma hold off judgment until I've had time to listen to it a couple of times and digest it.

"I feel like their career took off following Coma...."

Yeah pretty much like Sitar said, they're probably as popular as they've ever been, but coma made a lot of older fans check out, and a lot of those fans weren't too convinced or even interested in automata either (both have like 1/4 of the votes of most of their other albums here for instance).

I've mentioned it before here... but you can go on their subreddit and barely anyone seems to care about their pre-Colors material there besides Selkies and Mordecai, which will always be so weird to me haha

Breaking Automata in two was also a massive error in terms of public opinion. Luckily they…fixed…the error.

For me, I have no clue why it's such a distaste, because there is a relatively easy fix (put all the songs in a playlist) but I just can't do the split album for Automata. I'm not even that offended if it was for money reasons, it just doesn't sound like it should be two. Idk, maybe if they were considered EP's it wouldn't be any sort of issue at all. But for some reason, it just always has effected my judgement and reflection on the album...

Like if Tool split Fear Inoculum in two segments, would it be the same?

I like what Sitar said about the modern era of the band. Maybe part of my issue with Automata is because it's off the heels of Coma..

Parallax was their low point but they've been steadily improving since then

If I had to pick a low point, it would be the first 2 records.

Automata and Coma are becoming my faves by the band, Colors II just comes off as really cheesy to me a lot of the time, bit of a dip in quality for me.
