This is honestly one of my favourite post-hardcore albums of the decade at this point.

So when I checked this out last year I gave it a couple play-throughs and then gave up. It seemed an unremarkable 3. But I decided to give it another go this last week and it really clicked. I think before I wanted it to give off lots of energy and it wasn't really doing that. But things made more sense when I tried to think of this as analogous to post-metal. Its heaviness is less about speed or building to a frenzy. It has a slower, more atmospheric approach to heaviness. That really unlocked this for me and I can see this continuing to grow.

I'm new to this band so I checked out Satellite Years this week too but didn't like it nearly as much as this. Maybe I'll give that another shot in the future too. For now, content to continue enjoying this.

that's the one you'd expect to give off the energy you expected from this

Yeah, it seemed more energetic. But I didn't love the harsh vocals and some of the transitions to quieter passages weren't convincing to me. Still, I'll give it another go at some point.

Its considered a post-hardcore-ish classic, but it took me forever to fully appreciate it, so yea. I see where you're coming from.

i can’t get into satellite years each album since has gotten better imo but i feel like it’s one of those “not immediate but super rewarding” albums like much of the earlier albums from these types of bands

probably gonna be like the first alexisonfire where as a result of playing everything else of theirs to death i just force myself to listen to it a bunch and then one day it clicks

@onionbus I got into Satellite Years after A Types, but I already listened to bands like Underoath at the time (The Changing of Times vs. They're Only Chasing Safety) so I was used to hardcore bands changing their sound.

Try listening while looking at their artwork, and reading the lyrics. It adds up to the experience.

This album makes me feel things. I may be a little late to the party but I just discovered this about 2 months ago and have jammed so many times i can't count. i am a sci-fi nerd who used to be a Bradley driver in the NG. Bradley Fighting Vehicle hits me hard.
