Honestly I'd put this on par with their debut, they're mostly just shifting from pop punk to pop rock now and it sounds nearly the same.

"it sounds nearly the same" That's a bad thing for several reasons

Of course it's a bad thing, keeping a signature sound is one thing, but literally repeating the same album is pretty annoying. However, looking at it objectively it's still just a painfully average radio rock record

Just logging in for the first time in months to say this made me extremely sad to read. Great review, Sowing.

Yeah I'd go as far as to say their s/t is a very strong pop punk album and there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying their earlier material. But they've been all downhill since.

Even their debut was a 2.5 imo. And I’m a sucker for that ish. Feel like this would just end up being a hard 1, yeah

Edit: currently on my second spin of this. It’s a toss up between 1 and 1.5, simply because the opening track is okay and The Ocean and the Sun is honestly an enjoyable track reminiscent of something like Owl City, who I have a soft spot for. The rest of the album is pretty painful, though. Especially when they try to mix in too much “rock”. When you slant this hard towards pop, having brief instances of rock, in the way implemented here (Even if it Kills Me at the end of the chorus), is just not alright.

There’s just a tad too much I can tolerate to give it a 1, but wow the entire second half album is just a hardddddddd 1. “Alive” May be the worst song I’ve heard this year
