@park yep, one of the first non-metal albums i branched out to in high school when i was a total metalhead.

cool. what is it about it that made u fall in love
|
| |
It isn't. To get things clear, what I mean by "mediocre" is, well, what you can find in a first link of the definition: "of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate". But, I am aware that mediocre is more "negative" than average. The problem is that the "average" quality of music can change, calling something average is kind of vague, it depends too much on context; calling something mediocre isn't that vague.

| |
yea that makes sense
like if some genre or scene is small enough not to have blowhards making derivative shit to milk it for money, u could argue that the "average" there is actually good, like most albums in that niche are straight up good
it is relative in that sense, i guess i'm just used to also using average as synonymous for middle of the road in general

i just think Jeff has a knack for coming up with memorable vocal melodies, and i like his voice. the surrealistic lyrics here are some of my favorite of all time. the album is very cohesive with the recurring themes and the way the songs flow into each other. and that ghostly effect they use in multiple songs and the horns and the blown out bass and the bizarre lyrics etc. make this sound like some sort of window into a strange alternate universe in the 40s.

Ferris Wheel On Fire is also a 5

sometimes i wish lyrics did that much for me

I'm too into atmosphere. The music I tend to gravitate towards either place zero premium on lyrics or are indecipherable in that sense.
I love me this album though.

@parksungjoon
Alright, good to make things more clear. And about music before the 20th century and all that stuff, well, I could say more but it's all related to music having less artists. Of course, not all music was good, but I believe that most of it was at least better than most music these days.

"I could say more but it's all related to music having less artists."
if u r truly interested in this topic i would recommend that u read a bit more and u will find that most of the people making or performing music prior to the 20th century, indeed most of the people even trained in music were not artists but people simply rich enough to afford it, who were either interested or just pretended to be
were they any better or worse than ur shitty younger cousin who is 14 and decided to start a band after hearing the exploited on youtube? idk
i mean dont get me wrong i understand people's desire to look back on some grandiose past and lament that things arent the same anymore but what we know of history either points in the opposite direction (in this particular regard, in many others people tend to downplay quality of life and the average joe's intellect, look no further than depiction and popular perception of medieval peasantry but i digress) or is simply too uncertain to draw any meaningful conclusions from, as anyone trained in statistics could also confirm
