The argument I brought up in the review is that they put so many essentially basic elements into a song, many times at once so that it sounds more complex than it is, all in an effort to sound complex. Not all the songs here are that way I think, but some I would argue are. It's an illusion of density rather than layering things in interesting ways or even just cutting some of the layers away so that others can be made more interesting. I don't think this doesn't sum up Amorphis as a whole, but I did get that sense on certain songs here. Doesn't even have to be a bad thing necessarily, but that thought definitely made it less invigorating for me.

This is so bland that after the first round of listening I can't even remember one song from this album. It all blends into a forgettable soup.

I've never been a huge fan of Amorphis and I think this is hands down their best record in over a decade, and I was captivated from the very first track.

Message in the Amber is such a joy. The bonus tracks are also incredible, just as they were on Under the Red Cloud. As Mountains Crumble gives me strong Opeth vibes.

Gameofmetal, I have no idea what you're talking about. This is an absolute masterpiece. I stopped listening to Amorphis years ago, when they sold out to make radio pop-metal but this album is a great balance between their old heavy albums and their new melodic sound. Not a single shitty, wasted, filler track here. It's all great. You're over analyzing shit. Just enjoy it.

It's not a masterpiece like Silent Waters or Tales but it is amazing yeah and I can't really comprehend someone saying it's boring or there's nothing going on because that's just not the case.

Record puzzles me. It feels like I should like it more than I do. Tons of cool little sections, but the majority has very safe, repetitive melodic progressions. When the last track has rung out I don't feel much was memorable.

Lots of people seem to adore Amongst Stars. Love Anneke's work generally, but man.. her voice doesn't mesh with Amorphis well at all for me.

"The river ran murky with poison

The land was desolate and black

The bees had left the valley

The orchards were hacked down."

Damn these political lyrics.

This album honestly reminds me of Elegy a lot which is a good thing.
