That’s one of the best here for sure.

Which Julia Holter album sounds like “L’inconnue” because I need it in my life?

Reminded me immediately of “marienbad” from the album EKSTASIS

I still really like Pay No Mind, classic change of pace second track, Lemon has grown on me a lot now. Only a couple of the later songs have yet to really grow on me.
'I don't understand why you insist on comparing the two'
Just two albums I like a lot that came out a week apart and they both perform a similar role in my current listening - they're also both current top 15 of the year for me, I know I know, I suck

Also, surprised you 4'd the Courtney Barnett - that did little for me first spin bit I'll return to it

New Courtney is fine but pretty underwhelming.
And I finally give in, this is excellent. There’s a brief lull in the last third or so but “Last Ride” gets it back on track, lovely closer.

We have arrived in exactly the same place eventually lol

I can hear the Marienbad comparisons insofar as it being sort of echo-y, and the production, otherwise I don't really hear it. But hey, that's my favourite holter song!

Something about how “baroque” (I always use this word but don’t really know what it means: maybe you do) the background melodies sound and the airiness of the vocal production reminded me of Holter

L'inconnue is for sure the best. I love the Bloom vibes from Lemon Glow tho, and the opener is quite strong, as is Drunk in LA. Pay no mind is like the most boring song ever but I don't mind it playing in the background when I'm chilling
|
| |
Yeah, sort of Renaissance-like. The airiness you're talking about is what I was getting at with the echoing. It has a very distinct sound and I love it

If they had released “pay no mind” before the album I would have been like Wut but it’s def good as a second song following “dark spring” IMHO
|
| |
I don't skip it, it's got good vibes, it's just so uninteresting on the surface. Just a lazy chill track. I've definitely warmed up to this but I think it's one of their weaker albums. The entire back half is pretty meh, save for black car

Something about “Pay No Mind” feels too stiff. The melody doesn’t flow terribly well and the drums establish a sluggish pace. I love the dreamy part with the harp-like sound though.

Pay No Mind is an intentional bump in the road and I love that about it
It’s like this slightly clunky lo fi ‘90s YLT or Low relic that just shits all over the albums grandiose aspiration but makes more and more sense each subsequent listen
It’s sort of a ‘Dinosaur Act’ or the like. Love it, one of the best moments here honestly, a bit of a master stroke. It’s def a slowcore throwback.

Still chuffed they’ve released their second best after Teen Dream.
Ok, this album doesn’t have a song as good as Myth on it...but other than that this is effortlessly knocking Bloom into third spot now

I think me now liking Lemon Glow is helping the albums case a lot, song sounds like a continuation of Dep Chezza and I wasn’t a big fan of that one, but I think it’s the equivalent of a top tier Dep Chezza tune now.
