How do you mess up the sound of drum cymbals this much? This production job as a whole is infuriating.

the drum production sounds like the last napalm death album but this isn't napalm death

same guy produced, engineered, and mixed both.

--Agreed on SoS Willie--

There we go. One person agrees. Love that song.

The guitars have zero bite to them and everything is muddy as hell and flat.

AWWR was overproduced but at least you could hear everything clearer.

This could definitely do with a better sound, but I don't think it straight ruins the songs.

It sounds better on speakers than headphones, for sure.

man the mastering is terrible but i'm a few tracks in and when you get past it and blast this loud it is still enjoyable

i'd rather have something be a bit muffled and flat than like, really obnoxious in some way (like tinny or trebly as fuck), if that makes sense. probably doesn't.

lesser of the evils of shitty mastering

Yeah. The sound is one of those things that stops being a thing as soon as you kind of lose yourself in the music.

Agreed

Feels a bit more like pre Slaughter stuff. I liked the vocals as well, at least more than on their other albums.

Exactly. Which, IMO, instantly makes this better.

Are there any modern melodeath albums or bands that embrace the old style of melodeath? Like Skydancer, With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness, Lunar Strain style

The new album by Night In Gales sounds like the precursor to The Jester Race.

The new Night in Gales rips so much more than this. I'm really struggling with this one at the moment.

Some standout moments for sure though. Really dug the end of In Nameless Sleep, and that riff In Death They Shall Burn, you know, the one.
