There's many other ways you could arrange these songs to have something cohesive. Biggest problem with this will always be the track list besides that awful cover.

Of course 13th Step sounds like lightning in a bottle, any album that good does. And it seems like nearly every band gets that one lightning in a bottle album that towers above the rest of their discog and the other albums will forever (and unfairly) be judged to that standard. But it’s not so easy to just create masterpiece after masterpiece. Most bands seem to get one and that’s it.

IMO, 13th Step was their lightning in a bottle album, but MDN is still awesome and this is solid also.

First 5 tracks off of Mer De Noms completely destroy most of 13th step tbh. However, 13th step preserves the consistency of great material longer than Mer De Noms. In the end, I'd still say MDN is better.

I dunno man, that first five song stretch off MDN is amazing, but to say The Package, Weak and Powerless and The Noose aren’t as good (I think they’re better) is way off base. The Noose is actually my favorite APC song.

And yeah, 13th Step keeps up its consistency and mood throughout. It really feels like a complete album more than just a collection of songs — partly because they nailed the concept album about addiction idea.

All three albums are fantastic, and each offer something different.

A Perfect Circle will always allow an amazing escapism that I can’t help but adore.

One of those albums that I put on often for a few select moments, but wouldn't listen to from start to finish voluntarily ever again. Some of the lyrics are just criminally cringe.

When I don’t read the lyrics I like this better, would consider raising my rating. If the whole album sounded like the title track or feathers it would be fire

I enjoy this more (especially the first seven songs) than Fear Inoculum tbh. Maynard's subdued (and lack of highlight-ish vocal highs) approach works a lot better on here than there imo

This is on a similar level to FI, I just felt obliged to deduct another 0.5 for the absurdly bad album cover/album title combo.

I can't deny that both the album cover and the name suck hard

I had the opposite thought, Tool does a much better job of carrying Maynard than Billy does
