So many Tesseract fans hold one of the three albums in much higher regard than the others. Obviously, homey feels that way about Altered State (which I agree is definitely their best work yet). I haven't been able to listen to this one yet, but I do agree that Polaris seemed like a bit of a step backward. I still love it, and it has highs that reach as high (Survival) or even higher (Hexes) than nearly anything in their catalogue.
I'll hold off until I hear the whole thing, but the score seems a bit harsh after reading the review.

I haven't quite heard their album yet but I absolutely agree that Ashe O'Hara and Altered State was a great surprise and his voice was amazing
"stupid stylized capital "T" at the end of "Tesseract." It always has and always will look absolutely stupid."

SikTh is a completely different form of 'djent', I honestly don't even see them as djent, they are more of a tech metal group. Tesseract is way more focussed on atmosphere. I'm not sure if there were bands doing what they did before them, only thing that comes to mind is Textures, who also had some atmospheric moments and were highly influenced by Meshuggah

I honestly wanna know how they got the guitar tone on King, it almost sounds like a big brass section in the opening riff. I wonder if they used synths to back up the guitars or if the tone is just that amazing itself
