Hate to speak ill of them but yeah this was always a terrible project. I remember really early on looking up to them because they were a few years ahead in the canadian scene but the same goes for a lot of other horrible bands we had in the early/mid 00s. David seemed like a decent guy but was quite notoriously hard to work with, which I find hard to justify given the results

Nope, it's fine my man. It's a difficult album to love and it makes sense that many people dislike or outright hate it. If I'm being honest with myself, it doesn't hold up the way it used to, but I also can't deny that it still appeals to me and has a special emotional resonance.

For a lot of others, this could sound amateurish and uncomfortable. That's the diversity of music and there's nothing wrong with that.

It took a while for me to get used to his voice, since I was more hooked to his screams when I first heard their music.

The track Modern Life Architecture slaps! I think it's my favorite track on this album.

Hell yeah man. That track is just a monolithic portrayal of a doomed relationship. That piano comes down heavy.

Never even heard of this band until recently. Halfway through this album and I'm enjoying it, scratches that Katatonia itch but isn't really that similar. His voice is deep but emotive, goes well with this kind of music. Anyway really good review, obviously this album means a lot to you and I can see why. Personally, I harbor some similarly strong emotions regarding Crippled Black Phoenix' latest album, it touched me so deeply I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. Sounds corny, but I guess quality musicianship will do that to you.

If it wasn't for that comment, I wouldn't have discovered Crippled Black Phoenix. Been listening to them for quite a bit lately.
