The production isn't even the 5th worst thing about this album. It's weak, yeah, but the actual songwriting is the real issue here

i think the riffs are boring but some of the ideas are good. just not very strong on a moment to moment basis

I never noticed anything wrong about the mix here. I noticed it on say, Veil of Maya's Eclipse, but not here

I'd like to hear an example of a tech death record where the production is universally loved so I know what I should compare shit to

idk listen to any bit with a lot of fast drumming and trem picking on the album and it sounds squashed and pumpy
i think most people don't mind incurso's production. nothing wrong with your standard mark lewis sorta stuff for the genre either imo

"I'd like to hear an example of a tech death record where the production is universally loved so I know what I should compare shit to"
i dont think that exists tbh... unless by tech death u include 90s stuff not just modern decapitated/necrophagist and derivatives style

Idk I love this album. Modern tech death is hit or miss for me though.
|

a lot of it is just not good honestly
like some bands think the key to making good music is to have a guy with an 11 string fretless bass chode noodling away while overproduced drums that sound like plastic pummel you into submission

i don't understand why they want production that's even more overproduced than just standard modern dm stuff

Labyrinth Constellation, Anareta, Mother of Virtues, The Destroyers of All, Nihil Quam Vacuitas Ordinatum Est, Pleiades' Dust, Dasein and Urraca have all had pretty much universal praise for their production

I love Dasein, but I really don't know why the production on that album is supposedly good and on this album it's bad. I either just don't pay attention to these things or am incapable of distinguishing

Just listened to bits of Labyrinth Constellation for comparison and I can already tell you I prefer the drums on this to that. So I don't know why you're trying to act like there isn't a huge degree of subjectivity involved.

Not saying there isn't, or that you can't prefer this to that or any of the others, just that those are some examples of modern tech death albums where impressions of the sound (that I've seen, at least) are seldom if ever negative. The same can't be said of this.

Quarter of a million views, not a comment on the page mentioning the production. I'd say that's a better sample than a handful of disgruntled Sputniggas.

There are multiple comments mentioning the production. A lot of them are positive, some of them are negative. Here's a few.
"Mzee1084 6 months ago
Can't get past the clicky as heck drums. Ugh."
"KocoMK 1 month ago
The overall mixing also feels kinda weird... it just suffers from a bad mix and layers upon layers of vocals and strings, topped with overly-loud blast beats."
"SUFFERAGE-HamburgDeathMetal 4 months ago
So much passion and work in music and sound, but ruined by loveless plastic synthetic drum sound and programming...why?"
I never said you weren't allowed to like the sound, nor did I say the comments on here (or the ones on youtube or RYM or AMG or whatever) were representative of the majority. Xfing just asked for some tech death albums where people aren't visibly complaining about the sound.

Marston should've produced this, agreed.
