I'm all for the evolution/progression of a bands music or even a 'return to roots' if that is their choice. I still LOVE Underoath's previous three studio albums, 'Lost' being the best of the bunch imo, followed by 'disambiguation' and 'Define'.
Erase Me is sadly an apt title for this latest release, although saying that with it's lack of any staying power whatsoever for me and has already erased itself (even if 'On my teeth' isn't bad). I'm really surprised the band seem so sincere and proud of this release as to my ears it sounds like they weren't firing on all cylinders and it's as if many many compromises were made during the writing and recording of this album.
I'm not sure how good an idea it was to have a 'comeback' album that alienates so many of the people who were longing for the bands return.
We shall see.

They just had to stay on that Disambiguation/Sunburnt grind, but instead they did this

If anything, I’m hoping this is a one-off of sorts for them. It’s a style they haven’t done before and I think they did it well, so I had a good time with this. However, if they crank out a part 2 to this, I don’t think I’ll be nearly as interested.

Imagine being a beloved band that people are excited got back together and this is the album you present them.

I think that's the worst part of it. But then again I'm not huge on Lost in the Sound of Separation nor Disambiguation so maybe I any new Underoath wouldn't have been for me regardless.
Even then, there's no reason this album should be so bad at times and Spencer needs to be screaming on Underoath tracks much like Aaron should be singing a hell of a lot more.

it sounds like the first attempt at writing a shitty poem by a middle school kid trying to be profound, the fact those lyrics were written by people in their mid-30's is really quite embarrassing

Idk they’re pretty run-of-the-mill lyrics. Not great at all, but I’d never be offended by them lol
