didnt hold up as well on second listen. still very solid though. Decompose, Disarray, Manipulation, and Doubt are all excellent.

probably just a coincidence that both albums under the Preoccupations name are awful

wish these guys would try to write a song again instead of just dark-vibing with really highly mixed vocals yelling "precipitous overdose overwhelms me" or whatever

this is better than their debut. This one is a lot more dark and cold and focused.

Y’know, whenever I listen to this band I think to myself, “I like the sound here even though I know it’s carbon copy of a bunch of 80s bands, I should really listen to that OG stuff” but I never do.

Some day... I’ve got too much other music on my plate right now to go on a post-punk deep dive.

"Oh this is that band that used to be called viet cong but changed it right? And we had like a million pages on sput complaining about it for some reason"
well the decision to change the name was stupid, because it was people found the Viet Cong name 'offensive' because of their 'atrocities' in the Vietnam War. Complete historical ignorance informed by 'USA! USA! USA!' propaganda. Why would the VC attack random peasants when they wanted their support? In fact, they enjoyed immense popularity among the peasants, almost entirely because of their resistance to the US army, whose open, acknowledged strategy was to destroy villages, people's communities, their crops, etc, because doing so would supposedly deprive the VC of their peasant support. I mean jesus you go on the VC's Wikipedia page and the sections on their 'atrocities' mostly have citations from an American soldier in his memoirs, entitled "Tank Sergeant" lol. In other words propaganda made to justify the American destruction of some random poor country thousands of miles away from the US.
There's more to it of course...but yeah, the decision to change the name shows McCarthyism alive and well. And still people go on about leftists or SJWs being 'snowflakes'...
