I still like them. I've got this album on order. Pos.

Good review. It definitely has some good songs, and I will likely buy it in the end as a fan. But the lyrics are sometimes just really whiny, and it feels like it could have been done by a number of bands. Not really what I look for with them.

Pos but stop opening all your reviews with questions throughout the first paragraph. Sometimes its okay, but not every time

Eh, fine. It's a sure method of kicking off a review for me.

I've been trying (not always successfully) to write without them because the site's question mark glitch makes me a little crazy.

I was totally down for an album of catchy schmaltz after the first track but then every other track was just pretty boring indie (with some absolute shockers for good measure) and I was let down

Yeah, the opener is great but it sets the bar way too high.

How absolutely drab to the extreme is Cutting Stone. It sounds like they're making it up as they go along

Cutting Stone is very bad indeed, worst here

Hm, I actually think that’s one of the better cuts here. Top half, at least.

Ohh new Decemberists!
...Damn.

Pos'd. I thought I started the sim with saxes turned off.

I don't think it's that much drastically worse than their other material. they have a lot of middle of the road stuff, even in their early days

I strongly disagree with that statement (theyre a top 5 band for me) but to each his own.

Severed is cool
|

Uff, this album is mediocre. Last thing I enjoyed from them was "The King Is Dead."

What A Terrible World has some amazing songs.

First track is cool. After that it's all so samey. Nothing I'd actively avoid listening to, it's pleasant, but not memorable at all.

If "Rusalka, Rusalka" was a track into and of itself with some Hazards of Love wizardry for an ending, it would be the best song in their catalog. I enjoy the album in small doses, but the only one I regularly come back to is the one I've mentioned.
Good review!
