ur disgusting
i will amend said disgusting statement
Caladan Brood slays Summoning and you can't change my mind.
|
| |
i cannot imagine anyone thinking this is better than summoning
|
| |
I remember this being really amateurish, and I don't mean sonically. they just sounded like a poor man's caladan brood who are already a slightly less poor man's Summoning
Moongates Guardian's album this year was way better and actually unique

Moongates Guardian’s is sweet yeah.
I still dig this band though. Not better than Summoning though come on now lol.

Moongates Guardian is pretty good. Goofy as hell but still.

Those Russian spoken passages ruin Moongates Guardian for me
|
| |
okay yeah moongates guardian isn't bad, they seem to actually understand the summoning sound pretty well, it's enjoyable. not as good as caladan brood. i'll definitely be spinning this quite a bit. i wouldn't say unique either. caladan brood put their own spin on it and pulled it off. i think that sojourner TRY to put their own spin on it but i really don't think they pull it off, it sounds awkward and placid.
keep in mind my assessment is from a few tracks from each which is why i haven't rated tho

I just don't like Summoning as much as I want to or possibly should. The songwriting is like "let's punch this into a loop pedal and turn up the drum machine every few minutes." The female vocals and drumming on this make a huge difference to me, even if there isn't a "Pale Host"-esque number.

I don’t get how you can like something like this and not like Summoning tbh they started this whole sound lol.

summoning's attention to detail, incredible ear for melody and cinematic scope put them leagues above any band that try this sound. idk how you can say the drumming on this makes much of a difference when it's also a drum machine and sounds just as mechanical.
here's my problem - summoning KNOWS it's a midi drum machine but don't pretend it's anything else. they make the sound work because they utilize it absolutely perfectly within the sound and their aesthetic because it suits all the other midi patches they use and the atmosphere they're trying to create. that's their attention to detail. pretty much every single copy band try to make it sound like something it isn't and it fails miserably.
there are exceptions to this rule ofc but this certainly isn't one of them.

Sojourner have a real drummer actually, but it does sound too polished and mechanical.
|
| |
wait, really?! it certainly doesn't sound like one. as you said, far too polished and mechanical.
|
| |
i thought it was a drum machine when i first listened to Empires of Ash.

I really don’t think this is that similar to Summoning anyways. The production is much more polished and the female vox sound like Evanescence lol

I'll buy that. Chloe's not perfect technically but she creates some great melody lines.
|

Her singing is my least favorite part of this band.
|
| |
I love the concept, they just have to refine it a bit more.
