Seems like production takes more than its deserved slice of how good an album is a lot of the time, far higher weighting should be on the actual songwriting

songwriting matters but some of the moments on here just sound horrible because of the production. Old Nothing is just constant pumping cus of the awful limiting
i suspect whoever mixed this isn't in the wrong, it's the mastering guy, cus the reason you get pumping is normally that each instrument is hit hard by a single stage of compression or something, so instead of being smoothly kept at a consistent level you have it getting slammed by the limiter
ideally they'd just give it more dynamic range but alas
key way to tell is normally the overheads on the drums, which get way too snappy and stop sounding like cymbals

It's kinda like a mix between A and B. Nihil as a word doesn't straight ignore the H, but it is a soft pronunciation.
