parksungjoon - In answer to your question:
"does that work for you?
every time i've tried my brain just completely tunes out the music after a few minutes if i'm focused enough
bit of a bummer honestly"
For me, certain types of metal are just conducive to me staying 'amped' but still 'focused'. I'm not necessarily listening to the music in any appreciative capacity, but it's still affecting me in some of the same ways that it does when I'm just listening w/o programming.
Some of these, for me, are the likes of Be'Lakor, Deafheaven, Zao, Converge, Ulsect, Harakari For The Sky, etc. Something about them just help me get my blood up but still stay dialed in and focused.

Insomium and Northlane, for instance, help me sleep on airplanes. I can't explain why.

Yes, in the second half of this album my brain starts to tune out as well, probably because i was walking around in my college and while listening and theres so many distractions... my favorite time to listen to an album is while going for a walk/walking somewhere though

That's definitely a big-name example. But even in terms of the underground w/lesser-known acts, there have been more entertaining releases. Like I said, oddly enough, those albums get criticized for reasons that are being used to support this record. Feels like a no-win scenario, but it's predictable; tech-death is def one of the genres that gets a lot of (not necessarily baseless) disparagement for listeners.

Fallujah's production is even worse than this tbh

nomadic isn't as brickwalled, dreamless is too glossy but mastered pretty sensibly

Idk where the Fallujah comparisons keep coming from tbh, I don't hear all that many similarities other than the fact that they're both tech/prog dm bands.
These guys seem to be much more Cynic/Atheist influenced, at least on this album in particular. Either way I think Fallujah is god awful and these dudes rule so idk maybe it's just preference.

Wasn't comparing. More so surprised at how some tech-death gets hate then other tech-death is loved for the same reasons. It feels like a contradiction.

I love everything this band has done. One of the best modern tech death bands around imo and I don't dig all that much modern tech death tbh but this band has substance instead of just random wankery at all times. At least that's how I feel.
