True yeah, they ought to be a little more recognized than they are.

I think a lot of their appeal is that they’re Brand New clones but they deserve to be seen as more than just that

His Old Branches has grown massively on me. Thurisaz sounds like it could've been lifted right from it.

at this point i enjoy Wolves more than Brand New. Daisy and Science Fiction just don't get much rotation, especially compared to how much I give to Varuna, Shrine, and His Old Branches, etc

until I get my hands on the new mewithoutYou record, this is still my favorite release of the year so far.

my favorites of the year are Now Only (Mt. Eerie), They Are the Shield (Toby Driver), White is Relic (of Montreal), Only Love (The Armed), Heaven and Earth (Kamasi Washington), & Magus (Thou). Agreed, until new mewithoutyou album releases

Birdless Cage is going to be in my top five songs of the year for sure though. Hits so hard every time.

They started out sounding a lot more like BN than they do now (and the comparisons are still apt), but they've done as much as they can to grow out of the shadow of said comparison. I've always felt that Lacey has Maggio edged as a vocalist and lyricist (Maggio is still great - we're talking 5 star vs 4 star skill here), but TROW are a better band. Their instrumental skill tops Brand New on most occasions. Either way, these guys ought to be more recognized than they are.

"Daisy and Science Fiction just don't get much rotation"

That's interesting, those are actually the two I enjoy most these days lol

Same here. TDAG is still BN's best, but it spends less time in my rotation. Maybe it's some sort of subconscious effort to keep it from wearing out over the course of my lifetime.

That's the thing for me: yeah, it's objectively their best, but god damn I have played it to death. I know every lyric, every melody, every scream and change in direction. SF is less familiar to me so I find myself playing it way more. Daisy is weird tho. I've also played it a lot over the years but for whatever reason usually put it on over Devil

I really want an overview of the concept. I love Japanese folklore and the snippets I’ve heard of it, it sounds really awesome

Probably stands as one of my more underrated albums of the year. When push comes to shove, this will probably be in a strong top 10 discussion.
