How does an average rating make a user's opinion any less valid? That's an incredibly dubious way of assuming someone has a poor opinion. A lot of people (myself included) don't waste their time rating albums they dislike oftentimes. I only do so occasionally.

Same. I mean I admit I may be an optimistic listener, but I'll be damned if the fact my average is 3.88 means my opinion is less valid then a pessimistic listener who throw out 3's on the regular. If anything that could also be a bad thing as it could mean they are just incredibly picky or hard to please.
Which is not desirable to me in the slightest.

I should have explained that better, I more so meant that someone who is pessimistic might rate an album most would rate a 5 with a 3. I didn't mean for that to come of as 3 being a bad rating.
