i'm talking abt the instrumentals being aggressive, they felt much more climatic than appleseed esp the drumming

"focused" is right. It's cohesive, the songs flow together really well. Each song feels like its own chapter in a book.

This and Grievances feel like actual journeys in comparaison to their earlier releases. This took what was great about Grievances and made it even better.

Just listen to Hysterics and Cosmology, as albums they don't tie the tracks together. Not to say that in my opinion they sound like they were dillinger-escque just for the sake of it, as a fun thing. Since Grievances I feel that the band is way more mature and musical in their approach. It's not crazy for the sake of being crazy, the craziness has a place these days.

Anyone that enjoys this should give Grievances a listen. It's more bleak and builds a darker atmosphere but oh boy the run of tracks from Phantoms to Stage Knives is one of my favorite runs in the last decade. Opalescent is such an amazing track.

I really don’t hear Converge in it at all. Way more old oathbreaker-y with some BTBAM synth lines
