'60s and '70s albums have a great sound imo. I don't consider myself a specialist in order to say if it's because of production or whether these guys worked more on their tone, sounds, etc. (probably a little bit of everything) but every instrument sounded better. The drums now sound like plastic, the bass is like it's not even there and don't get me started on the guitar tone.

This has a definitive sound, but L.A. Woman had better production

as for today's production, looking elsewhere than in rock music would be your best bet considering the best production work these days are in electronic music

I do agree with that. When I said that I was refering to today's rock music since there wasn't A LOT of music that could be labeled as electronic back then

The Crystal Ship rules dude.

But yeah, have no idea about production other than in rock/metal so I take your word for it.

John Densmore might end up among my fave drummers.

Shame about the 2 weaker tracks on here.

Edit: had concern over whether I'd properly listened to "Break On Through...".

Edit: Am done with the album for now.

Edit: the concern was regarding a time near when I started this post.

"rock and metal needs analog"

Analog requires knowledge that the newer generations do not have. It is also expensive in this day and age. Back in the 50's/60's/70's, analog recording and production was the only means of recording so it wasn't like these generations had an alternative.

wish they did not have an alternative now,

todays music could use some analog, might sound better instead of everything sounding like a kid playing with garageband
