more of the same and possibly more formulaic than ever [2]
This is definitely true. I love Fallon and if he wrote another 15 albums like this and Painkillers, I'm always gonna enjoy them. But they do leave me wanting more.

his melodies just always sound so similar. i know he's done well at that and using the same 4 chords and moving the capo around, but at some point you gotta switch it up.

Fucking tattoos on your hands as a fucking fashion accessory. What a bellend.
I’m half tempted to get a spiders web on me neck to show this cunt how it’s meant to be done.

Come Wander With Me, Etta James and Watson are a few of his best ever tracks in my opinion (including with Gaslight). Really liking this despite a couple of meh tracks, noticeably the t/t.

I'm liking this a lot. Come Wander With Me, Forget Me Not, See You On The Other Side, Neptune, Etta James are all great. Solid record.

I don't like this nearly as much as I did at first. Maybe it's just not clicking with me right now, but once the excitement of a new Fallon release wore off, it started feeling very lackluster. It has its shining moments (Prayers, Etta James, My Name is the Night, title track) and none of it is really bad, but a lot of it is disappointingly pedestrian (Proof of Life, Neptune, See You on the Other Side immediately come to mind). It's hard to fairly rate this considering the perhaps unrealistically high expectations I have of Brian's art, but I honestly don't think anything on here really comes close to matching the finest points of his catalog from the past ten years.

Surprised that the rating for this has sunk down to a 3.5. To me this is much better than painkillers... Now that is an album that has some boring filler.

Both solo records are very good. Make a mix of the best from both and you could have 12 or 14 amazing songs. This one is a bit more consistent than Painkillers. Looking forward to seeing him in DC end of April.

starting to think the first half of this album is one of the best things hes ever put on record

Yep, this is honestly some of Brian's best material to date. Probably my favorite thing he's done since the '59 Sound. Etta James is just...damn.

this rules and is definitely better than Painkillers. The highs aren't as high as the Horrible Crows record, but it's more consistent and full of hook heavy Gaslight-lite jams. i love it.

Etta James is maybe my fav song of his since handwritten. Nothing but love for anything Brian touches

Fuck it, this deserves to be the first 5 of the year. There isn't a single song that isn't absolutely flawless.

considering a 4.5 for this hard tbh i love this thing. totally my album of the year albeit because i have a boner for everything fallon touches including get hurt

Yeah, the only thing that would possibly usurp this is 1. if new DGD keeps growing, or 2. mwY release an album this year. For real this is probably Brian's best material of his career. So fucking good!
