“TSLAMP' sounds like Wham with less testosterone lmao”
TSLAMP isn’t just a highlight on here, but in their whole discography. The melodies are gorgeous. Nothing even close to Wham

TSLAMP is the Club Tropicana of 2018
Tropicana is the better tune tbh, TSLAMP is worst song of the year so far.
Ariel Pink picks corns out of his shit better than that slush

Last year’s Ariel Pink is honestly light years ahead of this.
Shit, the last John Maus was better too. Even the last Empire of the Sun.
Damn, my kingdom for a tune dudes, my kingdom for a tune. Caveat: not a shit tune.

Empire of the Sun? Jesus.

This is gonna be on the next installment of underrated album lists. This is an orgasmic album. I thought it was incredible first listen but it only gets better and better.

You on the 12th?
|
| |
how is it underrated when it has the highest avg of 2018 on rym and 3.7 here?

Album Rating: 5.0
3.7 isn’t really orgasmic on here. 3.7 on here is good but it’s not AOTY worthy. Usually rym is about 0.5 points lower than here which says 4.2 on here and the reviews for this have not been too hot either. The highest on meta is 83. Kind of a shame this hasn’t gotten a 90+ which it totally deserves. I’m definitely happy to see the 3.73 on rym after over 1100 ratings tho and that meh reception hasn’t botched that. Totally deserves that kinda feedback. Kinda blows my mind this hasn’t really made waves outside of rym tho. This is album of the year material. Wish everyone could hear this the way I do. It is absolutely stunning. Hit after hit after hit. And contrary to most I find the last half to be even better than the first half. “One Thing Left to Try” and “Days that Got Away” rival “TSLAMP” for me for best on the album.
I think this album embodies what everyone missed from Oracular Spectacular while fusing with their experimental nature without losing hooks for casual listeners. It’s kind of a win for everyone. Even songs I originally thought weren’t stand outs have grown on me incredibly. I thought “Me and Michael” was very overrated til I kept giving it some spins and now it rules.

Is this nothing more than a half baked foray into experimental pop by a couple of art students?

it's everyday synthpop with some above average production and (imo) songwriting.
the 3/3.5 average is well decerved. Solid album, some really good songs, that's all i wanted from MGMT and more than i expected.

Agreed. This is good but not special. Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations both are better.

Clutching at straws but I’ve come up with something positive to say...
2018 MGMT > 2018 Beck
Progress of sorts

Never listened to this band's albums though I've got some nostalgia for a few of the singles from the Oracular Spectacular era. Probably not gonna bother with this.
