Just started listening to this. Midnight Summer Jam is a banger! Filthy was horrendous but I'll let it slide since it's a crappy lead single

Say Something is beautiful. If this second half can hold weight, then the album is shaping out to be a solid 3.

I think most people here are being too critical of this album. Some albums are made with the intention of being musical masterpieces, and others are made to entertain. This album clearly falls into the latter category.

okay but this isn't very entertaining, other than its badness

One of the main problems with this (besides a lot of embarrassing lyrics) Is the fact that a lot of the musical ideas it relies on people just don't care for in 2018 anymore, and the songs don't make strong enough cases for themselves to be cared about.
It's bound to go down after a couple of empty cans
Wave is still one of the best on the record, its got a fun groove I can get behind. Montana and Higher are good cuts too

I was gonna review this but I'm struggling to find any value to this besides it's one dimensional grooves

i'm scared to check this, relistened to futuresex and 2020 recently and they are so damn good

Higher Higher and Montana definitely bring back vibes of the good ol days

everyone talks about how great 20/20 is but the dude didn't even write the majority of the songs. JT is literally just a voice. That's his only talent, period. If you can respect that, great.. to me it takes more than that to be considered a truly great musician. If you can't even write your own songs (much less play an instrument at any respectable level) then what's the point. Also this album is literally a -1/5. Worst thing ever. I wonder if he actually wrote this one LOL

"the dude didn't even write the majority of the songs"
He's credited on every song.

I enjoyed most of the first half. but the last half it got a little weak. I gave it a 3 cause I've always been into JT

I take this as a resounding victory in the war against poptimism

ah yes, anything to bring back watered down alt-country to the masses
Wilco, where art thou?

Just because JT didn’t write every aspect 20/20 doesn’t mean it’s not good lmao
|

"he's credited on every song" .. ya he has input, lyrical arrangement, etc.. he needs a LOT of help to write a great song. Here's an example on how many people it takes to write a good JT song:
Timberlake Mosley Shawn Carter Harmon Fauntleroy Terrence Stubbs Johnny Wilson Charles Still
lmao
And I didn't say 20/20 was bad. I said you guys treat Timberlake like some sort of generational can do all talent. Like him making a bad album is some sort of shocking sin against the world itself. Timberlake is a voice, and a damn good voice.
I've never been a fan of these over sensationalized pop "artists" who need an entire crew of people just to write the song and then a literal entire army just to over-produce the fuck out of it to get it sound good then only put their names on the front of the CD. JT isn't the worst offender, he can do some other stuff, there's some pop artists who literally can't do anything other than sing someone elses lyrics let someone else produce the whole thing and call it a day.
Stop idolizing these pop artists.
edit* it goes without saying this is the ORIGIN of what made JT a "thing" : http://www.mtv.com/news/1443980/songwriters-behind-nsync-backstreet-boys-hits-win-big-at-ascap-pop-awards/

whoa it's almost like most mainstream pop artists usually have a team of writers behind them who woulda thunk?
