I don't think you could classify it as anything else. Maybe just epic metal or symphonic metal but the trems and vox are bm.
|

i mean i just think youre looking at it the wrong way. summoning doesnt fit into black metal, they just fit into summoning.

I agree with budgie, this doesn't sound like black metal to me, could pass for folk black metal thing, but in the end it's Summoning.

You could prob say this one isn't bm tbh (even though I would still prob consider it to be), I was just talking about the band as a whole over the years.

do you really consider summoning a black metal band? in the sign of evil, under a funeral moon, bathory, apocalyptic raids, i.n.r.i., deathcrush, those are black metal albums. summoning is fringe at best

Bro there's more than one type of bm. I completely see where you're coming from and I know those are bm albums but still.

while I'd put this in the foothills of black metal, I agree that Summoning basically defined a new style. it's like Meshuggah -- are they death metal? I mean sorta, but they're so unique and their body of work is so significant that it deserves a new label.

Hmmm good point tbh, never thought about it like that.

BM is such a broad term for me that I decided to use it, if we're being specific then we could call this band 'Atmospheric BM'

Black metal has subgenres. This is atmospheric/symphonic bm. The fact that it doesn't sound like Bathory or Darkthrone doesn't mean it isn't bm.

do you really consider dark tranquility a death metal band? effigy of the forgotten, seven churches, altars of madness, close to a world below, none so vile, like and ever flowing stream, those are death metal albums. dark tranquility is fringe at best

"The fact that it doesn't sound like Bathory or Darkthrone doesn't mean it isn't bm."
im not saying a band needs to sound like early bathory for me to consider them black metal, but if they were a black metal band they would sound more like bathory and not like LMHSYF
but in the end we have our own classifications
dont sass me seven

most the black metal I personally dig isn't really "true" black metal lol. If the music is good, that's all that matters

they're more symphonic metal than black metal per se, but I think their lineage plus the few black metal traits they do have earn them that qualification
