Hmmm while i differ with this reviews' rating, I definitely see where it's coming from... Some boring and one dimensional sounding chugging songs in the latter half hurt this album, which would be rather great if it kept up te quality of the first half.
I agree that the album sound is really weird and doesn't add to the experience...
One thing I dont really get is people being disappointed that the album doesn't sound like "classic morbid angel"... as if Morbid Angel greatest albums weren't complete deviations form what was before (eg. Altars, Blessed, Formulas). They never played it safe (well, for better or worse...).

I think that, with this album, Morbid Angel have just started (from a lower point, though) a course analogous to that from Formulas... to the apex point (imho) of Heretic.

Haha that was actually my hope, as Formulas is among the best albums ever made. Unfortunately Kingdoms isn't even close to that...

Mentioning this in the same breath as FFtF is a crime ; ). I was actually digging that album today.

hints of greatness are audible here and there, but too few...

The vinyl version of this is way better, because i has one song LESS: the flow without that chug-fest 'Declaring New Law' is definitely better...

If any other band released this album everyone here would universally agree that it's mediocre at best.

It's pretty strange yeah, the drums sound really hollow and it's really hard to decode what's going on with the guitars.

The guitar work is much more interesting when you listen to what they're doing in relation to each other than in isolation agreed

"and it's really hard to decode what's going on with the guitars."
Man, idk what you guys are talking about. Are you listening to a high quality version on decent headphones or speakers? Cause i dont have any trouble hearing whats going on. Theres some amazing interplay with the guitars.
