Review Summary: The Silence of the Lambs
This is the journey of a warrior who cowardly flees the battle and tries to find a way home in the darkness.
This is the pain of a kidnapped woman, locked in the back of a van, hearing sounds and noises, but seeing nothing.
It all starts with rumbling sounds that blast into your head, making you feel far away from home. We already heard the evolution of this band, 10 years after U.X.O., with the violence and the arabian vibes of Mladic, with the noises and the fear of war portrayed in Their Helicopters Sing, and by now, in 2017, we also heard the yells for revolution in Luciferian Towers, but they sounded a bit farther than we expected.
Then, why are we so far away from a warm place? We’re still in the darkness, and thinking about records like LYSFLATH we get nostalgic, we want to go back there and get warmed in the beaches of Coney Island, but it’s cold now. It’s cold and pitch dark, and Gy!be wants to keep us right in the middle of paranoia.
All we have to do is accept it.
So the battle begins, and the horses ride into each others, the knights sink in an ocean of blood and we are the audience of that massacre. Surrounded by the glorious guitars, we already feel uncomfortable and we hope for a chance to run away from there, as soon as possible.
The coward runs in the forest and gets safe from the swords just to find bigger enemies: The nature and the loneliness. Herzog said that Kinski was sexually attracted by the heart of nature. Places where nobody walked in before. He thought there was some kind of erotism in the uncharted places of the jungle. But Kinski was a mad man, and when the Lambs Breathe, i can hear him crying and yelling, while f*cking the trunk of a tree, scratching its bark, disintegrating his nails.
And then…
Silencio. No hay banda.
The woman gets locked in the van. For five minutes, we experience her pain. She doesn't know where she's going or what's gonna happen to her. She cannot do anything but crying and suddenly, she hears some sounds, gently rising from nowhere.
Kinski becomes a creature in the woods, he reaches the peak of his madness, and lurks in the darkness experiencing terrible sensations.
The coward is Asunder. He’s terrified. Weapons can’t fight the forces of nature, so he trudges with his eyes closed and every step he makes, is another fragment of sound, until the flute starts playing and he realizes how far away from home he is. The creature surrounds him and drools with the idea of eating him alive. The hell on earth begins, Piss Crowns are Trebled so the coward runs and runs and runs...
In this journey, i walked in the darkness for many time, until i found my way home.
and now that the trip is ended, i go back thinking about those 40 minutes just pass in a fraction of second, while i experience the same emotions, the same fears and the same pleasure.
All i want when i listen to Gy!be is the darkness. And here i have it…
