But it's looking like this is generic tho, and when I reviewed Guilt & Grief waaaay back when that was one of my complaints--reliance on genre cliches.
I'm trying to listen to other self-recs and this is honestly low on the list for me, sorry.

I'm sorry my man. 2017 as a whole will probably be a year in music I'll most likely be passing up since I'm so far behind. I'm gonna try and be on top of things for 2018 but we'll see.

Well I'll either search religiously for good stuff or I'll become a hermit for the next four or so years until Persefone releases a new album and I will probably 5 it

The past 12 months or so have been really really strong for metalcore after a heavy lul after 2011/12/13 ish IMO.

Damn, I really wanted to like this, the style's right up my alley. I usually don't mind if the riffs are generic, but these cleans are too and it's putting me off big time. Maybe it's because I've been jamming Currents and Forbidden to Fly quite a lot lately. Oh, well...

This is better than Currents tbh

I'd have agreed to that 2-3 years ago in a heartbeat. BIV's Faceless came out in 2014 and that album being nothing special, I almost dismissed it after the first listen, but I eventually grew to really like it (still listening to it). If it came out today... I'm not so sure. But I feel the cleans on that are somewhat better than the cleans on this, even if they are also totally generic. And to tell the truth, it did take me a couple of listens to get into Currents' TPIFS, most songs didn't click with me right off the bat (one still doesn't).

Honestly Polaris's two EPS before this are better now that this has sunk in, but I'd still take this album over any of Currents, and I like Currents new album quite a bit

just realised how shit this year has been for straight up metalcore. the only really great records have been the our hollow, our home and thousand below records (not counting counterparts etc.)

That Our Hollow, Our Home album fucking rips, highly underrated release

Thousand Below is great. I also love Inertia's Unlearn EP which seems to have flew under the radar (they weren't even in the database, so I took the liberty and added them). They are also from Sydney and the EP is streaming on BC: http://inertiasydney.bandcamp.com/album/unlearn

'just realised how shit this year has been for straight up metalcore. the only really great records have been the our hollow, our home and thousand below records (not counting counterparts etc.)'
Legit aren't Thousand Below more post-hardcore than metalcore?
But I disagree anyway, this year has been one of the strongest for the genre in a long while IMO. This year that's gotten me really excited are the new ABR, Darkest Hour, Polaris, Phinehas, Trivium and While She Sleeps records, last year we only really had the Architects record, and maybe the Bury Tomorrow record at a push and 2015 PWD - IRE (though most dislike this), Haste The Day - Coward and While She Sleeps - Brainwashed. 2014 was completely barren as fuck.

yeah true thousand below are more post hardcore.
while she sleeps is also fairly solid, but last year's norma jean is enough to blow everything this year has given us in terms of metalcore out of the water
