They combine elements of sludge, stoner, doom (basically like most "post-metal" bands) but also they have a bit of noise and drone as well. Might not be to everyone's taste, but I ended up digging their set when they supported Rosetta in April so it was cool to see them play Vitus again. Also, a bit noble of me since we both live in North NJ, but it's cool to discover and support a local band playing this style of metal. Talked w/their guitarist post-show for a bit, and he remembered me as "the guy in the Thou shirt" from the Rosetta show. They're fans of Amenra too, so they felt really privileged and honored that they got asked to play on the same bill. He was nice and humble to talk with.

Based on robotmagician's account on how Statiqbloom went down w/the Amenra fans on the first night, Sunrot definitely had a way better reception by comparison (wasn't at the 1st night). I sampled them cause they're supporting Street Sects whom I plan on seeing in 2 weeks or so and yeah w/their industrial electronic sound, they probably would be better received opening for Street Sects or a noise project like Prurient or even Godflesh maybe.

You’re right about the not always projecting part and I finally understand your small problem with Solitary Reign. It was interesting, the part where Colin seemed to struggle on the second night was with the almost whisper singing. It’s so fragile and it seemed as though the words wouldn’t change me out properly, almost like his voice was breaking. Once he sang with some more projected vocals it seemed to have fixed whatever was going on.

It’s funny that he says he faces the other way partially as to not take the attention from the music or his other band mates. I find Colin’s performances utterly enthralling and he’s always within my focus. Even with his back to the stage he projects this pain and energy that I didn’t think I’d ever see from someone. It makes when he does turn to face the crowd even more intense. It’s really indescribable. I feel so weird gushing about the guy/band but I’ve really never experienced anything like this. If anyone else reading this has an opportunity to see them I beg you that you do. It’s worth it.

Ill check them out Acme nice one.

Its all good Robot I gush continuously over Amenra and agree with all thats said. The band and music keeps me afloat. Ive also met so many new friends through the church of ra 2 dayers or all dayers or just simply Amenra shows all over Europe over the years. Its opened up all kinds of new friendships and people I care about. I mean even with people in other bands whove been a massive influence to me, I know now as friends and that in itself is not a big deal (theyre just fucking people) but for me ,more that anything, its shows how fucking weird life can be. I would be down listening to certain music and years later Im friends with some of the guys I was listening to ,to help me through. All those thing happened after Colin just simply answered back to a random message. Nothing to him, Everything to me. Even when down in the dumps crazy amazing shit is still possible. Only Neurosis are on their level for me personally. But the Amenra live show when it hits is unique.

kevbogz, it's hard to say cause these two shows were one off headliner shows where they played up to an hour and a half. I could give you hunch on what you could expect and that's pretty much a somewhat condensed version (about 45 minutes) of a combination of the two Vitus sets with cuts from Masses III through VI.

It's funny how I went from not knowing who Amenra were until they got on the bill for the Neurosis/Converge East Coast tour last year to being one of my favorite newest discoveries ever. I'll never forget that first show last year and seeing the stage pitch black w/the band logo illuminating on the screen and then the band slowly walking on stage one by one and then pummeling straight into The Pain It Is Shapeless and proceeded to get my brain blown by them and getting even more mindblown the 2nd night.

Not to toot my own horn, but I somehow ended up with one of the 2nd night set lists from Mathieu. I didn’t even ask for one, but a dude next to me called out to him post-show and he had two on him. He gave one to him and the other one to the next person next to him which just happened to be me, haha. It’s now framed with a poster I got at the show.

setlists for a lot of bands get posted at setlist.fm but you’re pretty much always relying on people at the show to provide you with an accurate list
