I'm close to fiving this myself. I think Sprained Ankle is still better by a fraction but darn it this is beautiful.

They're about equal to me. Both are perfectly fine and have good lyrics etc I just can't make myself care about them that much.

That's fair. Unless it was the production or sound of Sprained Ankle that was a barrier to adoring it, I can't imagine that this would do much more for someone who wasn't head-over-heels for the last album - at its core, the songwriting is quite similar. I think the main differences are in the production, added instrumentation, and shift in perspective. I'd argue the songwriting is better here, but still not all that different.

I know a guy who wasn't that into Sprained Ankle that was into this at first listen, so I think there is something a bit more accessible here with the added instrumentation to change things up a bit

A high rating from Snake and a low one from Doof = something that should be up my alley so let's do this gentlemen.

Is she really as good as Thomas Baker, famed 19th century landscape painter?

oddly enough this record seems a bit light on content. julien's melodies seem a bit repetitive here, with the belting-out tenor notes usually being the most recognizable part of any track. the arrangements are very pretty, undoubtedly. guitar sounds seem a bit xx at times

Yeah this whole album is pretty and nice sounding but it all melds together and sounds pretty samey. Some great lyrics but man it's also kind've a downer. Bring me back up with some happy memories, Baker.

Lyrically it's more upbeat and hopeful than the first at least

I never really got into the first unfortunately. This stuff seems right up my alley but for some reason it's just not connecting. This is the exact kind of album I could usually heap on lots of hyperbolic praise.
