People are expecting too much out of what has essentially been a pop band for their entire existence. The only difference throughout their almost 30 year career is the instruments used and slickness of production. Some albums just happen to be crunchier than others. This is not a crunchy album. EWBAITE and white were both crunchy.

Yep, don't really see why this is getting so much hate. It's a breath of fresh air after hearing so many darker, melancholic albums this year. It's light, beachy, fun and it has a certain lovable charm. Aren't a lot of pop albums I can describe that way, at least from this year.

Some people suggest the only difference between this and White is the production? No way, the songwriting is far, far worse on this album. Very basic, corny hooks repeated throughout, whereas White had much more interesting chorus melodies. It has very little to do with production (though that does hurt it too).

Mexican Fender, for example, has very White-esque production, yet the songwriting in the chorus is far blander than anything on White.

This album has great verses though, I'll give it that.

Weekend Woman, QB Blitz and Sweet Mary are the only songs that sound like they could have been written by a band of the same caliber that wrote White.

Curious about this but after hearing those terrible singles I can't imagine this getting a 3.5. Although It breaks my heart bc I still have love for Rivers. Dude is hilarious on twitter. Everybody follow him. Seriously. sometimes he posts the most random and confessional shit.

This sounds like Imagine Dragons. Not what I was hoping for. This is like a 2.7.

I listened in one sitting. My though process was like "Beach Boys may objectively be the worst Weezer song I've heard. Singing about the Beach Boys does not create a beachy atmosphere on its own." Then I was like "Another song about Diane! This is really good!" Then the album was over.

This is like the equivalent to Linkin Park doing One More Light, that's what's wrong with it

Both have always been pop bands at their core, no one's denying that. This is just a godawful attempt at making overproduced "mainstream" pop
