It's impressive to see a band with 2 member changes between albums release something this cohesive and true to their style. You can just tell they have awesome chemistry as a band. Also the new drummer has some serious chops holy shit.

It ain't a good idea to open a review by talking to yourself about what you'll rate it

""At first it was a low 3, then it was a 3.5, then a 4, and now it's definitely a 4.1""
Super engrossing review

enjoying this far more than their previous release. don' t listen to much of this genre but the riffs here are soooo tasty.

Review sums up exactly how I feel about this band! Much like Shai Hulud or Misery Signals their sound isn't instantly gratifying.

Dunno if this is heresy or if people will hate that I say this, but I never really gave these guys a listen and the first pass-through of this record gave me the same feelings as Killswitch's As Daylight Dies record when it first came out haha. Not even necessarily a similar sound, but just the vibe it puts out.

do i really need to listen to an album by these guys 10 times to like it...

had a friend say the exact same thing when I showed him this LP heyadam. I don't hear it at all though. Killswitch sounds like post hardcore mixed with dadrock to me and nothing like Counterparts
|
| |
haha for sure! that's why I mentioned it wasn't really the music but the feelings I got from it. It sounds so desperately hopeful in some parts and that's what I felt through most of that Killswitch record. They were one of my entry bands into metal growing up and that record popped into my mind during some of the choruses on this.

Recently been listening to these guys more, I love me some old-school metalcore and these guys remind me a lot of Shai Hulud and Misery Signals, as well as some melodic hardcore bands like Defeater.

definitely. they've said before thats the exact sound they go for is like old school metal core like shai hulud, mis sigs, poison the well

Neat review, one of your better ones I think.
If it were me I'd change para 2 line 1 to "All the difficult-to-get-into talk is a little misleading though because You're Not You Anymore isn’t a prog fortress; in fact, it’s their most chorus driven work to date." or something like that. Getting a semi colon or dash in there would make it easier to read / be more grammatically correct than a comma. Just my 2 cents.
Looking forward to jamming this
