"People may say his vocals lack energy here, but they do what they do really, really well."

Yea I don’t know what’s not to get. He’s going for a more somber gentle vibe. It’s not like he’s uninterested.

The album is about Mike's friend who died from drug addiction and his vocal style his supposed to mirror his friend's attitude when he was on drugs. "Nodding on and on" in return to earth refers to that where he feels like he's zoning in and out of consciousness. I like it. This album has been a massive part of my life over the past year since it came out.

The bass is pretty sweet on many tracks. Adds some emergy to this dark and dreamy record :3

the "lack of energy in the vocals" is on purpose. it's stylistically meant to be that way. i can if you perosnally don't dig them, but "lack of energy" is just wrong.

LMAO! Y'all are tripping! He's literally singing like a person too high on drugs too give a fuck and you're still saying "he has energy!!!" Yeah, it was a conscious artistic choice, but that doesn't automatically make it good.

It's obvious half the people of this thread haven't seen them perform live, Vocalist gives everything into his performances.

Mike is a huge reason I love this band and this album especially. May bump this up. Really cathartic to sing-a-long to.

their live performances have no weight to discussion since they recorded what they recorded here. intention vs impression is a thing. he may be successfully expressing whatever the drugged angle but it's damn boring, plus it doesn't help that half of the musical sections are weak.

Imagine if Contortionist made an album that was a remake of The Who's "Tommy", except instead of a blind pinball player it was about a tone-deaf karaoke singer. Imagine Mike Lessard singing every note exactly half a step out of key.

Some people would still be going on about how genius it was that he maintained his exactly half-step out of key tonality throughout the entire album instead of just admitting that the whole album was awful garbage because of a bad stylistic decision. xD
