tbh the lyrics where a bit of a challenge for me with this band...in this record i find cool the meaning of it...but still i don't like they use technical words we use in music, like "ebb and flow", and "progression", and "intuition", specially when they are already doing it in music. Its all kinda redundant. In this specific album i got absolutely triggered when i found it was about his old friend who died on drugs. All started to make a lot of more sense to me. But hey...English is not my native language, so maybe i got all wrong.

Haha. I usually don't argue the "debut was best!!!" point except for these guys, and still, I feel like Language was pretty damn solid too. Some of it feels v structurally awkward, and that's kind of in a weird way what makes it work at points. Exoplanet worked the same way too, like that moment in the middle of "Advent" where it just lights right up out of nowhere.

By the end of the day, it'll all boil down to a subjective difference in opinion. My whole point, contrary to the stubborn defendants of the band, was not that the band wasn't 'allowed' to change or that they should never consider it. Rather, I firmly believe that their core dynamic and appeal emerged from their command over the heaviness, the abrasive nature of deathcore, combined with the beautiful instrumental swells of post-metal. By leaning more towards post-metal/post-rock and prog tendencies, they left behind a cornerstone of their identity that they never truly recaptured.



Are there still moments that are heavy? True, but they are not delivered in the same manner; the effectiveness of the moment feels like a neutered version of similar ones on Exoplanet. In the end, it's not about the debut itself, but more about exactly WHAT it did that their later release DON'T.

Very well-put, and thanks for ur thoughts! I think you make some great points about that particular characteristic of the band, that one characteristic that drew us all in, and I think that whole concept of maintaining control over the heaviness being what the band excels at -- I think that makes a lot of sense, and am glad you shared that. It's interesting with bands like these, where most other people who are still listening to the band, they largely like every recent release as much as the old ones.

Digging the idea of that particular degree of uniqueness being a personal goal to seek out for some, when opening up Spotify or whatever else deciding what to settle on listening to - I suppose everything new that we get into musically, & artistically in general as well, inevitably does *something* new to our own pre-conceptions abt music itself, which is an interesting concept on its own.

There's a "Redux" version of Exoplanet on Spotify, which seems to just be a remastered version, but it sounds pretty tight. I feel the remaster comes off a lil' brighter and melodically vibrant than before, but I could also v well be wrong about the release itself, so!

Yeah, I never listened to the Redux. From what I understand it sounds exactly like you describe, which I don't think I want. Part of Exoplanet's appeal, for me, was that it wasn't squeaky clean and had a certain edge to it. I'll probably compare the two at some point though, I might end up being surprised.

Yeah, there are instrumental additions to some of the tracks, which is really neat. I do also think they did a great job of still capturing the heaviness of the release, but heaviness also means diff. things to diff. people ultimately -- nice to at least have the option available tho, for sure.

Satisfied that none of the subsequent albums have a higher average than Exoplanet, but also satisfied that this one in particular doesn't have a higher average than Language. People who are like "oh, this album is so deep you just don't understand because you're not listening closely enough" annoy me to no end. This album sucks. There's literally nothing here.

I get your views guys. I don't like Intrinsic or Language as much as I do Exoplanet and Clairvoyant. I'm not a defendant of the band and actually I love those 2 albums almost as if they were 2 completely different bands.



It's totally acceptable that this one is not for you guys, and since you look like you're there since the begining, I get your disappointment. I just think, from my experience with Clairvoyant, that it's a wrong analisys to oversimplify such a layered, subtelly complex work, just because is not heavy enough. This is dense and deep album that obviously needs some defense.



I can agree with Mars when he says "they left behind a cornerstone of their identity that they never truly recaptured." But do they want to recapture that identity?



I also think the Redux version is pretty tight and I always prefer that one to jam Exoplanet.
