Precisely. The Contortionist was much more deathcore on Exoplanet than StC was on Odyssey, that's how I see it.

God, I can't decide if this album makes the end of the year list. It's right on the cusp.... there are some really cool moments and I groove when I listen to it, but nothing sticks a day later (besides the singles).

At this point the only previous album you should listen to is Language. Band has evolved beyond recognition.

i keep trying to get into Intrinsic but even though i try to focus on every section, i start to become bored after a while... i find it strange because i enjoy the djenty riff's and such... its missing something

Songcraft. They've always been great musicians, but didn't always write great songs. Sometimes less is more.

Yeah I said earlier that I always thought they wrote amazing music, but not so great songs. Clairvoyant turned that around a bit.

"*Language* turned that around a bit."

FTFY. Language part I is one of the most gorgeous modern prog songs written.

Yeah it’s a great tune, II is cool too but a little too junzy.

Yeah especially the first half after the blissful ending of 1, but the end of 2 gets soaring again.

rather take Intrinsic than the last two honestly. the songwriting is as haphazard as a lot of deathcore/early metalcore/death metal/math rock out there, but there's appeal in their methods. a pastiche of cool moments/riffs, and Language kinda followed. speaking of Language II, the first half is neat but they ruined it by forcing the callback.

intrinsic is unlistenable for me just sounds so bad. language was a good jam but a lot of the heavier stuff feels forced and thrown in there for the sake of it.
