"yea the mix aint good so far. drums sound like shite. amazing to me that bands with endless budgets can still get shit production, where as my band has zero dollars and we do it right."

Yeah I guess the production doesn't quite capture that "retro feel" they were aiming for but it still has a pass from me. I don't think it's flat out shit.

Great review, though. I think you described this record perfectly.

less a humble brag, more trying to make the point that it is not that hard to get good production these days with the advances in technology. like no album, whatever the level, should sound like shit. demos are a thing of the past.

couldn't agree more jmh. there's no excusing shitty production, and i say that as someone who grew up on horribly produced (or not produced at all) punk bands.

post yr shit when it's finished.

"why were people excited for this?"

Wasting Light was so good it convinced people Foo could put together full albums of good material instead of just some great singles mixed with filler.

"Run" had me VERY excited that they had turned things up to 11 again. But apparently that might not be the case.

Yeah this isn't on the same level as Wasting Light but it's far better than Sonic Highways. It's a solid rock album and a step back in the right direction for them.

For me it's about on par with Echoes, if that helps.

echoes has a few of their best songs, but it suffers from excess filler probably even more so than the rest of their discog.

After a couple of listens this sounds pretty decent, probably a strong 3 atm.

Echoes was basically The Pretender, which is top 5 for the band, and then 45 minutes of meandering nonsense.

and then Wasting Light came along and it got to pull the "no BS just the stuff you love us for" card and it worked

This is a good album with some big hits and a few big misses. I prefer both Wasting Light and Sonic Highways, but this is still pretty solid.
