Light Years is the only song without female vocals. I'm ready to say it surpasses this and I wasn't all too obsessed with the singles. Granted, I never disliked them as much as you.

To a song, the singles are shit

Well, Light Years is just a boring retread with a piano part that sounds lifted from a hundred other songs - it’s average at best

Indeed

Things have been going too well this year, I’ve been uncharacteristically 'new music'ally chipper, almost to a Sowing degree - I’ve probably got a 5 among my many 4.5 ratings and there are a few more anticipated albums coming soon.

Something seismic in the musical universe needs to bring balance...and one of my fave bands of all time dropping a sub 2.5 turkey would do it.

i mean lucid to be fair you did rag on this album pretty heavily before it was released based on some reads of the singles stripped of their contexts

Rylan and Where is Her Head are the clear standouts for me. Unsure about a lot of the rest

They took their music in a different direction which I cant be mad at.. but im not sure if I like all of it, doesnt even sound like a National record tbh..

Its a summer album no doubt.

I listened to the new one twice, was pretty underwhelmed the first time. Then the second listen was much better, but I don't see preferring it to the previous four happening for me. It's like El Vy meets TWFM, which I was sort of expecting from the singles, but still ambitious (it is their longest album yet). El Vy is very good, and so is I Am Easy to Find.

That hardly makes this the b-sides album though, as Rowan and maybe others said. This album is more developed and complex than the new one imo, and both are completely different styles.

The El Vy was a 2.5-3 for me so that’s not the greatest sell in terms of comparisons

This is definitely complex insofar as its ability to put the listener to sleep. New album is miles ahead of this, not sure what to rate it yet though

That's good to hear. I felt like outside of a few tracks, SWB was a bit of a step backwards.

Hey Rosey and So Far So Fast are the clear highlights imo. Rylan is officially their most overrated song

When those female vocals first come in on Oblivions has become one of my favourite Natty moments period. Whole song is just incredible.
