@Snake
You do know they had other ideas, right? A bulk of this album is about the anxiety of creating art and not knowing whether or not your best ideas are behind you. Pretty much the entirety of "In The Water" is about the band not knowing if they measure up to their past works.
Given how "I am a nightmare", "Mene", "Sealed to Me", "Out of Range", and "Lazy" were all scrapped songs that were fairly decent if not absolutely beautiful (Sealed to Me) then I would say they could potentially release another album and it still be good. Not to mention Lacey's wife teased Brand New fans a few years back saying that the band has a wealth of demos and songs that never made it onto past albums.
So... I think its at least a tad disingenuous to say that they didn't have any other ideas. If that is indeed what you are implying.

Disagree.
Respectfully, of course.

It's better than a lot of songs on their debut but not as good as the best songs on it. It's kind of safe and repetitive, but it's got better production and feels like a more musically mature take on YFW's brand of very immature pop-punk.

I Am A Nightmare sucks and most of the debut sucks worse...
"it's got better production and feels like a more musically mature take on YFW's brand of very immature pop-punk"
...but fwiw I do think that these things (bad prod/poorly controlled emo_testosterone) at least give YFW an edge. Nightmare is throwaway alt-rock blandness down to a tee

None of it is why I ever liked BN, which is why I'm very glad they chose this direction rather than trying to come full circle with a mature pop punk record.

wow i just typed out about 150 words about why i kinda respect about 60% of this album even though everything else BN have done has aged badly (including maybe Daisy which i am maybe heavily overrating) and closed the tab fuck

Hey, if it makes you feel better, if you spent that long on the comment there's at least a 40% chance it would have timed out upon submission and lost your comment anyway.
Daisy has aged better than anything else in their discography including this and TDAG.
