Handcuffs is such an underrated song. Maybe the most underrated on TDAG, though there are quite a few underappreciated songs on there, the instrumental 'Welcome to Bangkok' is amazing, for example. And the poppier tracks like ''Not the Sun'' stunning songs, great album. So many great melodies, this is second best after TDAG, probably

One could argue perhaps Jesse was TOO lit

Handcuffs is good but I'm definitely one of the people who thinks it's a weaker cut
Bangkok and Not The Sun are incredible though

We still talking about Handcuffs lol. Anyone else get Porcupine Tree vibes on the "Wayyyy out" part? (About 2:25 in)

I don't know but, Handcuffs, those fucking lyrics man. Heartbreaking lyrics. The guy is literally just taking himself apart.

Handcuffs is bottom tier TDAG but still a VERY solid track because the album is a certified 5.
Listened to this in full this morning and the results stand official: TDAG = Daisy = Science Fiction >>> Deja = YFW.

Handcuffs has always been one of the best songs on TDAG imo, it's just not a good closer

Handcuffs doesn't sound like it belongs on TDAG; it sounds more like a Science Fiction song or something.
|
| |
Yeah I can agree with that

Not that it's a bad thing either. Like I said, I enjoy the song a lot, I just don't think it's an atmospheric fit on TDAG. Lyrically it's a bit closer to the mark, even though Vin wrote the lyrics (not Jesse).

Handcuffs is nice yeah

I think you should relisten to it I think it fits TDAG album as a closer, very well. Lyrically it's like the person is reflecting on their behavior and taking a sort of ownership in a way ''It's hard to be the better man when you forget you're trying, it's hard to be the better man when you're still lying''
I will say though I think Archers is a bad song to go before Handcuffs, not that Archers is bad, great song, but the sequencing is fucked there. Doesn't make sense at all lol

Yeah I already agreed that it's a lyrical fit -- just not a sonic one. I think the sequencing with Archers is fine.

See I'd say Archers is the one song that doesn't belong on TDAG. As said above it's a great song, just feels jarring to me. It's way too happy for that album, doesn't make me feel like crap.

Interestingly, I've never heard it as a happy song. It's always felt to me like an urgent and impassioned plea. The lyrics certainly aren't chipper or anything either. Pacing-wise it's not plodding and depressing, but that helps balance the album.

Archers still is the weakest for me

yeah man archers is not happy lol
It doesn’t have the same self loathing the rest of the album has going on but those lyrics aint happy

Still happy compared to stuff like Jesus Christ and Limousine, they make Archers feel like the Macarina in comparison haha. Mind you, the entire album is just brutally depressing from start to finish.
