just think ab the fact that the cover of this album is two young girls falling to their doom. now that's unsettling. its been a while since I've come back to this, its amazing but obviously doesn't feel the same, and in the water is a creepy song man

I have an alternate album ordering for this as well but it is kind of blasphemous, especially considering I drop 2 songs altogether. However, with that said, the album absolutely jams this way:
1. Lit Me Up
2. Can't Get It Out
3. Same Logic/Teeth
4. In The Water
5. 137
6. Out of Mana
7. Desert
8. No Control
9. 451
10. Batter Up

uhhhh but waste and heaven godly and no control is by far the worst one tho
ill make my own eventually where i like idk asap no control with like out of range and make it flow more tonally consistently like move out of mana earlier

nah dont think that alternate tracklist works. it makes the album ridiculously top heavy cuz you're putting all the best/most exciting songs right at the beginning of the album, so the second half absolutely pales in comparison. also "in the water" is the kinda song that feels like a real culmination/payoff, so its gotta be later in the album so you can build up momentum during yr playthrough.
a big part of why i love this album is that it feels like more than the sum of its parts because its tracklist is real balanced in terms of song quality, tone, track ordering, and just the general way that all the songs come together to form one cohesive work. so if you start to take songs away, it kinda all falls apart.
btw i can see the logic behind cutting "waste" and "heaven" and moving "same logic" to track 3 cuz holy fuck, don't y'all get the distinct feeling when "same logic" kicks in after almost twenty minutes that "shouldn't this have happened earlier?" not saying i dislike the album structure or anything cuz i think its fuckin brilliant but "same logic" definitely feels like an obvious track 3 in generic pop album structure.

The reason I cut Waste and Heaven and kept No Control has more to do with the album's flow and atmosphere than it does what I find personally preferable. The album just has a darker, creepier identity this way. I feel like In The Water definitely possesses that culmination quality you reference, but the entire album is a culmination of their career so I don't necessarily think it has to be placed at the back of the runtime; although I certainly wouldn't be opposed to exploring alternate tracklists that do. I also don't think it's top-heavy because 137, Desert, and 451 are all outstanding and Batter Up hits you in the feels. Anyway, the whole album is still amazing with all tracks included and in its proper order, this is just my preferable way to listen because it makes it digestible in a 45-50 minute work commute and focuses the eeriness by cutting some of the more Deja-feeling tracks.
