What lucid said may be true for some but I dunno, shields never grew on me and I don't see this growing either. I really went into this with high hopes, was spinning veckatimest all week tof get hyped. I just don't hear the things that made grizzly bear unique here

Had my first listen reading through all the lyrics and it improved some of the tracks. Systole and Cut-out feel nearer to old Grizzly Bear than anything else, imo. Neighbors has that feel too.
Not to argue, Potsy, because I see where you're coming from, but this still feels unique and undeniably Grizzly Bear to me. I do wish they had at least one minimal, vocal-centic track though to throw it back a bit.

oh well, i guess the direction of indie, much like the direction of rock these days, just may not be for me.

Listened to this once on my way in to work and enjoyed it. Seemed a lot more accessible, and overall the ideas were really good. Songs seemed like they didn't go anywhere though, like I enjoy the premise of each track but then it didn't evolve or develop outside of maybe 1-2 exceptions. Feeling a 3-3.5 but will require more listens for sure, could grow.

The album never sweeps you off your feet but rather suspends you in air, which can be its own kind of pleasure.

Man the last track is so so good. Probably my favorite Grizzly Bear song; and this is probably my favorite Grizzly Bear album as well.
Settling on above a 4 for this -- only got better on my 3rd and 4th listens, respectively.

Sky Took Hold is a SOTY candidate, album skyrocketed up the ranks of my AOTY contenders as well.

I'm not really sure what plane's talking about because there are some serious Radiohead vibes here (In Rainbows and King of Limbs era especially) and nothing that sounds like Coldplay, and I say this as a fan of (early) Coldplay.

Whose idea was it to release this album just when a flood of big hitters came out? I've listened to this a few times and I'm sure it's pretty good but damn, it's struggling to make waves
