Yeah, an EP is generally (technically?) 3-5 tracks (or under 25/30 minutes, depending on which definition you use), but given that an "album" in more recent terms connotes something more cohesive and whole (and """important"""), I think it's natural for people/artists to want to label projects LPs for the sake of them being taken more seriously. Ultimately it's confusing and doesn't matter, particularly if you're streaming music; everyone kinda just has a feel for what they consider an EP, LP, or mini-LP, and IMO it's not as clear cut as, say, the distinction between short fiction, novellas and novels (though, of course, even that is fraught).
(Not saying it should be up to the artist, by the way -- if EPs are under 25 minutes, this is an EP, if they're albums with less than five tracks this is an LP, you choose -- just that IMO it shouldn't matter too much.)

the purpose of the two labels was defeated long long ago when streaming took over tbh

Wish his older work didn't take so long to grow on me; this album is uneven, but it got me into a lot of stuff that didn't click with me at first.

A lot of the difference between LP and EP has to do with release schedules and tours and such. If it's a major release with a tour and everything it's probably an LP. And like genre and tracklisting differs by genre. A powerviolence record can be like 14 songs and 10 minutes long and be an LP, while a prog LP can be 4 songs and 60 minutes long

Went back to this randomly. it's better than I remember. It's at least a 3, maybe a 3.5. Sad we'll never get to see what he could've done with more time. Guy could write some catchy hooks, that's for sure.

Soon, I hope. Something feels off about the release of his music, though -- a few months ago his bandcamp disappeared.

I've heard four songs off this and they're all really good.

why do any of you think a posthumous album by any artist ever is gonna be a. not a cashgrab by the estate, or b. worth listening to
|
| |
I mean if it was all planned out and they just died a few months prior to release that'd be a totally legit posthumous album.
|
| |
Not saying that's the case here, but it probably happens sometimes.

I'm not sure that it was finished or anything, just in a raw state, and whoever's behind the release now is really milking it with the hype. Also considering all his music was taken down from bandcamp, most of the rights to his music were bought off from his mother, and his label thought it was okay to allow a single to be spliced together with an artist he really did not like, something is definitely wrong.
That said, I'm not principled enough not to listen -- can't complain too much about new music, especially if it was something he intended on releasing down the line.

Nah I think it was done for the most part. I’ve had like 3-4 of the songs already even before he died

Yeah the XXX collaboration shouldn't of happened. And then the same Melody was used for the ilovem....
If the proceeds are actually going to his mom I'll be happy to see this come out and I've def heard from some die hard fans this was supposedly mostly finished.
