I feel like this is a little bit underrated here, possibly due to Jari being a massive douche.

i'm not so sure. i've listened countless times and it always leaves me feeling really unfulfilled. there's just not a lot to it. first and last tracks are good but as an overall package it's not that great.

you have to take an album in its context too - a musician's hubris and the situation surrounding an album absolutely do impact enjoyability. like if this were the bedroom project of a random musician i'd likely be impressed but when you remember this guy's pedigree, it makes less sense how underwhelming this is.

Countless times with a score of 2.0? That would be weird, wouldn't it?

The only real issue here is the production.

Yeah, definitely agree with this. I still like this a fair bit. What the hell is going on in the third track around 2:00? The blast beats are either off, or all the other shit just arbitrarily plays over the blast beats. Just doesn't sound right to me.

really? the bad lyrics, the nonsensical songwriting in track 3 making it seem so overlong, the bland progressions in track 2, the dry as hell sounding drum machine... there are bands running circles around jari's effort here. there really is nothing distinct or unique about this album and it just gets lost in the shuffle.

the only tracks here that pass as wintersun tracks are one and four imo and they desperately need a touch up with a full band playing.

agreed - easily the worst track. such a horrid attempt at symphonic black metal. seriously, there are other bands running rings around this.

I think with the success of the debut album this dude's head just grew to galactic proportions and he's convinced he's the mozart of metal. And then I'm sure his ego grew even more exponentially after people decided to give him 6 figures just to make more music. Finally, he decided to give everyone these 4 amazing tracks in exchange for hundreds of thousands of euros lmao

And the whole thing was supposed to fund a studio and all he's ever shown is a computer and monitor rig set up in his apartment lol

he's a good songwriter but there are songwriters in his field running rings around him. i say this as someone who thinks time i is one of the best symphonic metal albums of the last 10 years.

as i wrote that i had to check how long it's been since it came out - fuck me, 2012? that's nuts.

I love the debut album but I think the more symphonic he gets, the less interesting his music is and that's the direction he appears to be headed. More and more symphonic and bloated every release

it depends how it's utilised - time i was really balanced and interestingly structured. this... not so.

Time definitely wasn't nearly as bloated as this is. It was enjoyable for the most part although I don't really revisit it like I do the debut. This album even has some pretty decent sections. Would probably be pretty solid if the songs were more or less cut in half and it was released as an ep. I think winter is the only song here that I enjoy pretty much all the way through

I'm not exactly qualified to judge Autumn because it's just not my cup of tea. Seen lots of people loving it for what it is and even asking for full-length of the same kind.

'Dry' sound is the production issue, again, which I agreed with.

As for 'nothing distinct or unique', you might wanna check Loneliness youtube comments. At the same time I understand those saying TFS is 'an album of filler built around Loneliness' but this song alone justifies it anyway.

Whether there are better songwriters or not is subjective, in my books Time I is the best thing I've ever heard in music, not just symphonic metal, there's nothing even close to its level and there probably will never be. The second part is gonna be no less glorious, played The Way of the Fire live rec some hundreds of times and it doesn't wear off one single bit. It's better to release one masterpiece in your life than some 'good stuff' to please the listeners in need of another fix.

People started calling him that after Time I and he recorded TFS before the 6 figures sum with no idea the cf would be the success it was.

I love the concept behind this. Think their debut has some amazing solos and songwriting all around too. Sadly this is one of those bands where the vocals absolutely destroy any chances of me actually going out of my way to listen to any of it though.

As far as symphonic metal goes, wintersun is like a 1/10 on the cheese scale. At least as far as the debut goes. This one is like a 5/10. Symphonic metal is cheesy as fuck
