They already had their growing pains, no excuse.

If it’s gonna be the equivalent of Marrow of a Bone, that’s gonna take a bit to process and judge fairly.

Is 'Kyo's midlife creativity crisis' a more fitting description of what's going on then?

The new album is... really not good unfortunately. I feel like I should bump this one just because it’s so much better in comparison. Kyo literally just whispers and makes alien orgasm noises with a million different vocal effects for 50% of the record while the band plays goofy ass riffs and somebody jerks off all over a synthesizer. There’s like 3 or 4 good songs and the rest are just pretentious nonsense or just incredibly cheesy. The first demo they put out is pretty good here although it’s completely unrecognizable. I wasn’t as crazy about Adoratio as some people here but man this album is still a huge disappointment. The softer songs lack the emotion of their old albums and the heavy songs just sound like worse versions of Dir en grey. The last demo they put out before the Waizatsu radio edit was better than pretty much anything here and it’s not even on the album for some reason.

Thats disappointing Still havent checked it out, but my excitement for this release was already been dashed away by some of the singles, and the track sampler they released a few weeks back...

infinitum is a grower. I was kinda disappointed on my first listen, but after more listens I appreciated most of the songs

A bunch of great songs on the new one. Nothing mind-blowing though. Kinda interesting how they go full-out with the more industrial sound in the first half and keep it more organic/traditional Sukekiyo on the second one (with two exceptions). They also go complete DEG on Koumo Chigau.
This remains a weird project. They have released one of my very favorite albums of the decade (this one), and never got past "ok" beyond that.

Watch Persuasio and Mutans, just as good as this.

I always meant to but didn't come round to it yet. It's on my list! Although I was specifically thinking about studio releases but yeah, didn't make that clear

For studio I agree because the others don't have Tue mastering them. In terms of the songs themselves I think Vitium is their best work.

I listened to that one only once and don't have it rated, but it didn't really convince me back then either. Although I remember it being more interesting than Immortalis (or the new one, for that matter)

I actually really like their other releases. I enjoy tracks like Hidden One on Immortalis, and Foster Mother on Vitium just to name a couple, which I view to be some of their best songwriting. Sure, the production on those releases aren't on the level of this, but they're still better than the production on TIW at least, and it doesn't really get in the way of my enjoyment (which is weird for me because production usually makes or breaks an album for me).

Oh their songs are awesome, they just needed a spit polish to bring them to life which is what they got after release.
