Ok put more b-sides then.

they really should have put some of the stuff from the cassette on side B to beef it up a bit. the piano version of Motion Picture Soundtrack and some of the early Climbing Up the Walls demos are fucking dope

No surprises is annoying to me

Most of the b-sides aren't doing much for me.

"Lift" is wonderful

That's one of the better ones yeah.
You can tell why pretty much all of them were left off though, either because of quality or that they just wouldn't fit the mood. Maybe they'll grow on me but I don't think any of them are as good as anything on the actual album.

'I don't think any of them are as good as anything on the actual album'
Well, 'Ok Computer' sits at number 1 of the RYM all time album list so not really a criticism.
'Man of War' I really like, 'Polyethylene' I was amazed by back in '97 thinking it was just a B-Side.
Overall Boney I'd say if you want to be amazed by Radiohead B-Sides listen to this tracklist:
- Talk Show Host
- Cuttooth
- Fog
- Daily Mail
- Ill Wind
- Spectre
- Staircase
Those are all good enough that they could have appeared on a lesser album like Hail to the Thief or King of Limbs

Talk Show Host is great yeah
I do like Man of War and Lift a lot. Polyethylene is ok - I wish it were just the second part or that the parts were tracked separately though.

Listened to some of the remastered tracks - is it just me or did they bring some of the subtler atmospheric and production touches higher up in the mix? Everything sounded ever so slightly brighter too.

the closing breakdown of Pearly is quite great.. the song itself is dull though.. they should have used that someplace else..

Pearly*'s one of the better b sides imo

Coke Babies lowkey one of my fav radiohead b-sides
|
| |
holy shit, this is the highest average i've seen. and I wonder if it's the band that's so good, or it's the fanboys that are so devoted.
|
| |
A bit of both probably but the original release is a 4.6 on here & people that will have rated this version most probably ARE fanboys. It's a 20 year old album with a bunch of b-sides, the people purchasing said album this soon after it's release are almost definitely big fans of the band already.
I think the average will come down after more casual listeners pick it up later on, which will happen if they don't already own the original (as why wouldn't you want the version with extra content?)

Rating only based on the B-sides, giving this a decent 3.5. The first four on the second disc are excellent and the rest range from average to really good. Only "Man of War" and "Lift" are good enough to have possibly made the album imo but after a number of listens to them I wouldn't be too disappointed if one or both had made the cut in place of "Subterranean Homesick Alien", "Karma Police", or "Electioneering".

The fanboyism is strong in this one.
